It’s Perception, It’s Audience, It’s An Internet Marketer’s Harsh Reality…
I had an “awakening” this afternoon. It came about while looking for joint ventures for our new product launch for MBM Premier. Last night, I went to Google and I typed in some keywords that have relevancy to our product (great way to find authorities in your niche if you are launching a product). I had a reply today that opened my eyes. Even though it wasn’t what I wanted to hear, it was what I needed to hear and actually made me contemplate Max Blog Money’s entire approach to marketing MBM Premier…
I ran into a well thought out and well managed blog. The exact keywords I typed into the search, I don’t remember, but this blog was atop the search engine. I went on to email the webmaster (owner of the blog) Michael *(last name confidential)*. Here’s how it went down…
Me to Michael…
Hi Michael,
My partner Patrick and I are looking to launch a product soon, and it falls within the category of building a business with a blog. We are hoping you will be along for the ride. The approach is building an entire marketing system with a blog. It focuses on helping the “little guy,” seeing that not everyone has a stock pile of money to pay a programmer or buy a high-dollar script to get the job done. Our system transforms a blog into a complete marketing system. It is perfect for those looking to start an online business(in-expensively and easily) from the ground up, launch a product, and/or promote products.
We have a video explaining where we started, why we’re doing what we are now, and why we believe our product is valuable and totally unique
> http://premier.maxblogmoney.com/jv-opportunityWe would greatly appreciate it if you take a look and get back to us with good or bad news, hopefully the former :). Thanks for your time and consideration.
Michael to me…
If you had presented it as a business marketing system instead of a make money online/Internet marketing thing, I might be interested. Good luck! :-)
Me to Michael…
Michael,
We do present it as a business marketing system to help businesses
launch their own products through a simple, but effective marketing
system using a simple blog. It is hard, however, to steer away from
the online/Internet marketing aspect because that’s what it is
essentially. We give businesses, as well as individuals looking to
start a business, a real option when it comes to marketing and
promoting their business, products, and/or services. We do have
leeway as far as the selling points and we will incorporate the
benefits our system has to offer from a business marketing system
standpoint. We would love to have you on board and are willing to
make the necessary adjustments to make it happen. What can we do?
Thanks once again for your time and consideration.-Shannon
Michael to me…
I understand that, logistically, your system would work for any kind of online marketing. Under the hood it’s all the same engine. I get that. But perception is everything, and everything about your site from the domain name to the graphics create the perception of a make money online product, which most people think are scams.
My audience will not go for your product the way it’s currently packaged & presented. If I recommended it, I would lose their trust and get a lot of backlash, so I just can’t do that. Plus, you wouldn’t get many sales through me.There is no reason why you can’t sell the same thing two different ways with two different domains (other than it’s extra work for you). That way you can appeal differently to different audiences, and take different marketing approaches for different segments. If you wanted to do a more “third tribe” style of packaging & presentation that focused on the business system benefits over making money, I could get behind that. Not only that, but you’d open up a new branch of JVs, too. I can’t be the only one who has these reservations.Michael *(last name confidential)*
Me to Michael…
Thanks for the input, it is greatly appreciated. I will concentrate on this launch as of now and then look more closely to marketing to different audiences at a later date. I can keep you updated on our progress as far as making the product more appealing for your audience if you’d like.
Thanks again.
–END ALL–
This exact conversation sparked my “awakening” and I hope you can see why. Michael, had just told us, our (Maxblogmoney’s) approach will not work for the majority. Even though our product is valuable, informative, and true, it would not survive in most markets because of its connotation (the vibe it gives off). No good huh? Actually it is very good, and I want to give Michael HUGE kudos for his input, for it has opened my eyes to the harsh, but true reality we need to face if we want to survive in the Internet Marketing world… For most people, making money online is a fantasy. Even though it is possible and easier than you may think, societies perception has made it hard for it to be that easy. As marketers, we need to adhere to these unwritten laws and accompany any and every audience the Internet sends our way. Do not get caught up in the idea of making tons of money online. Get caught up in the idea of building a true business to help you, and others, reach your goals and your dreams. The results can only be positive…
This was my awakening…

Very interesting post Shannon. I’m in the process of setting up my new WP blog and have been struggling with how to present to viewers(as MMOs?)I think not – My inbox is flooded daily with Get Rich offers, many the same but differently addressed…I have come to loathe these and have begun to unsubscribe from many lists as a result. There are soo many online marketers these days and it seems that most have learned the same methods – share your lists to build bigger lists and mass mail as many offers as you can get your hands on. Most of us want to make money on the internet but all of the get rich scams leave a bad taste.Long term relationships and mentoring to grow business is much more appealing.
Hi Shannon Murphy: I don’t know anything about marketing, and the URL above is one that I am presently involved in, in my quest to learn and create a business where I can make a few bucks on the internet. I was provoked by your analysis of the marketing priciple described, and in my simplicity, I see it as very understandable. There are always more ways than one to approach any problem. I think it was Abraham Lincoln that said ” You can fool some of the people all of the time, you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time”. Some of the gurus believe that the way to heaven is selling a “Make a Guru package” that sell for $10,000.00, and at the other extrme, are those that believe that creating a 50,000 member list, giving away bits of information is the right way of doing it. Maybe I am missing the boat alltogether!, anyway, that is the way I interpret that situation. Hope this helps you unravel the mystery. Follow your gut feelings, and good luck. Tom Erickson.
Shannon, I am assuming you have done your market research and determined that there is indeed a need for the information you are presenting. While the “packaging” can make a difference, sometimes it is the “difference” itself that will sell something. People do get tired of the same old stuff.
Arlene, yes there is definitely a need for the information we are presenting. Pat and I started online a couple of years ago and really hit it hard within the last year; we even developed our first product. That is when we hit the road block. We had no way of promoting and formally launching this product; a problem a lot of new marketers run into. We didn’t have the money to pay a programmer or buy the script we needed. So, we worked with what we had and knew, and that was a blog. Through our research, trials, and experiences we developed Max Blog Money Premier. A program that teaches 1) how to build a blog from the ground up, the right way 2) how to build a platform to launch/ and or promote any product (your own and affiliates) using the same blog 3) how to market, drive traffic, build leads, and really understand Internet marketing as a whole. I like to call it “a business system in a box,” it’s all there…
